Dental implants look, feel, and function like natural teeth. They are the closest treatment option we have to replacing natural teeth.

Dental Implant

A single unit anterior dental implant is one of the most challenging cases to restore correctly because every detail shows when we smile.

This highly esthetic result was obtained by using guided implant surgery, a custom temporary implant crown to contour the gingival tissue, followed by placement of the final crown restoration.

Collaborating Cosmetic Dentist: Dr. Julie Driscol

  • An implant restoration has 3 components

  1. Implant body
  2. Implant crown
  3. Implant abutment.

  • The implant body is a titanium device that looks similar to a machine screw.  It is placed in the bone to serve as the root of a tooth. After the implant body heals for 3-4 months, your dentist will begin designing  your implant restoration. The restoration consists of the abutment and the crown. The pretty part of the restoration is the crown and is the only component you see. The abutment serves the important job of securing the implant crown to the implant body.

  • Your smile matters, and a missing tooth can reduce esthetics as well as function. Missing teeth cause several negative changes to occur.
    • The surrounding bone tends to resorb and shrink. With no intervention, 25% of bone loss occurs in the 1st year after a dental extraction.
    • Adjacent teeth tend to tilt into the missing space over time which disrupts the natural orientation of teeth.
    • Remaining teeth take on additional load and wear prematurely.
  • Dental implants are the closest treatment option we have to replacing a natural tooth.
  • Dental Implant Benefits:
    • Permanent
    • Functional
    • Ethetic
    • Minimally Invasive
    • Preserve Health of Adjacent Teeth
    • Highly Successful

  • Most patients are candidates for implants.
  • Patients just need enough bone volume to place the implant and enough space to design a crown.
  • Age is not a factor in patient selection.
  • Reduced success has been correlated with smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, radiation to the head/neck, and osteoporosis/cancer treated with anti-resorptive medications (Bisphosphonates/Fosamax/Prolia/Xgeva).

  •  We will see you for a consultation to evaluate your case. Once we determine you are a good candidate for an implant, we will schedule your procedure.
  • Procedure times are usually brief. Depending on your case, the procedure lasts between 30-60 minutes.
  • While some discomfort is normal after the procedure, implant placement usually causes minimal pain which is well managed with medication.
  • After placement of the implant, the site needs about 3-4 months to heal. Your dentist will then complete the restoration by designing and placing the crown which generally takes 2 appointments.
